EDGAR filing services vs document conversion

Compare EDGAR filing services, SEC filing transmission and approved-source HTML conversion so your quote and authorization cover the right layer.

Illustrative controlled document production layers

Conversion and filing are different purchases

EDGAR filing services may bundle client coordination, document conversion, tagging, review and authorized transmission. A production subcontractor may provide only one of those layers. Buying an HTML conversion module is not automatically buying a complete SEC filing service.

Identify the primary document, companions, submission type, exhibits, period, deadlines, metadata and approval chain. A package can be complete for production review while submission is still unapproved or outside scope. Ask the provider to name exactly what is delivered and who remains responsible.

What conversion-only support can return

An agreed conversion handoff can include primary HTML, permitted assets, checked navigation, a source-to-output proof, manifest and issue/change log. If tagging is contracted, the complete taxonomy companions and reviewer evidence need their own scope. Unresolved source questions must be decided by the content owner, not guessed by an operator.

Production-only support does not require shared Login.gov credentials. Private files, tokens and confidential codes must use an approved secure process, not this website’s email enquiry planner.

What authorized submission additionally requires

EDGAR Next uses individual access, named roles and authorized delegation. The parties must establish permitted transmission access and review responsibilities. Confirm submission metadata, exact-version final approval, TEST message review, explicit LIVE instruction and acceptance/suspense handling.

Uploading or transmitting a package does not automatically create an accepted filing. The authorized filer/agent must review official processing evidence and the applicable filing-date rules. A production operator should not promise filing-date outcomes based solely on a completed HTML proof.

Questions to put in the statement of work

  • Are conversion, tagging, package assembly and transmission priced separately?
  • Who owns issuer communication, disclosure approval and accounting/taxonomy decisions?
  • Which revisions, proofs, companions and review evidence are included?
  • When does the turnaround clock begin, and what happens after late source or approval?
  • Who can issue the final LIVE instruction?

A clear scope protects the buyer from duplicated effort and prevents a conversion vendor from assuming ungranted filing authority.

Our current position

EDGAR Conversion focuses on approved-source production and controlled handoffs. LIVE filing is not the default service. Review EDGAR HTML conversion services, EDGAR Next coordination boundaries and our quote approach.
